Principal’s Message
It has been a wonderful four-day week of learning, growth, and community building at our school. From classroom learning to extracurricular activities, our students have continued to demonstrate enthusiasm, perseverance, and a commitment to doing their very best.
As colder weather begins to settle in, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the conditions. With rain, sleet, and colder temperatures arriving, students should come prepared with proper boots, coats, hats, and other weather-appropriate clothing. Once snow arrives, students will require snow boots, winter jackets, mitts, hats, and warm layers. Unless there is heavy rainfall or temperatures reach approximately -27°C with wind chill, students will be outside before the morning bell, as well as during morning and afternoon recess.
This week, our volleyball teams continued their practices and preparations, our Grade 6A students enjoyed a week-long learning experience at the Alberta Legislature, our inclusive education students participated in morning drumming sessions, and across the school our students continued working toward optimal learning and personal growth each day.
As we look ahead to next week, I would like to remind families about our Halloween activities and costume expectations. We will be hosting a school-wide Costume Parade for all grade levels. This is always a wonderful opportunity to build community and celebrate the creativity and excitement of our students. Some classes may also choose to hold a Halloween movie or classroom celebration. Please watch for communication from your child’s teacher or feel free to contact them directly for details.
To help ensure a safe and respectful learning environment, costumes must be age-appropriate and school-appropriate. Students may not wear masks throughout the school day, and no fake or replica weapons may be brought to school. Any such items will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. If your child is bringing treats or snacks to share, please remember to be mindful of any nut allergies within the classroom.
As a Catholic school community, we also look forward to honouring the Vigil of All Hallows’ Eve, followed by All Saints’ Day on November 1 and All Souls’ Day on November 2. These sacred days invite us to reflect, pray, and remember the faithful departed. We encourage families to take time together to honour these important traditions of our faith.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We wish all of our families a safe, joyful, and blessed weekend.

STAY HOME WHEN SICK
The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff remain Edmonton Catholic Schools’ first priority.
Staying home when sick is one of the most important ways we can protect our school communities. Students and staff need to monitor for symptoms daily before coming to school. Anyone who is exhibiting symptoms of illness, including fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, new or worsening cough, or shortness of breath, should remain at home until their symptoms have improved and they have been free of fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and they feel well enough to resume normal activities. If your child becomes sick at school, please come and pick them up as quickly as possible. Keeping illness out of our schools is a shared responsibility. Please inform us if your child will not be attending for any reason.
ECSD continues to follow the guidance and direction provided by Alberta Health Services, Alberta Health, and Alberta Education to support our schools in reducing the risk of transmission of illness and maintaining safe and healthy learning environments for our students and staff.
SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS
Our PAC met on Wednesday October 21st, during which we reviewed the survey results from https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZKRCLDW which parents are still able to access. From this survey many parents would like us to offer our future meetings in a hybrid for those who are able to attend in person and those who cannot may participate via teams. Prior to our January 6th meeting at 5:30 pm, we will send out more information regarding this.
PAC will also continue their fundraising efforts during November 26th Demo of Learning. Please make sure you stop by the PAC Table to help fundraising at our school and receive more information. ALL fundraising money raised goes BACK to students! This includes providing the hot dog lunch this fall, and all upcoming fun treats and events hosted by PAC. So the more you support fundraising, the more the students benefit.
UPCOMING PAC CASINO
PAC has an upcoming casino being held Saturday and Sunday February 20-21, 2026. All the funds from this casino are allocated to the needs of our St. Bonaventure school; including: technology, field trips, year-end movies and events, additional items for student learning and engagement, Parish field trips and events, and much more. The best way for our community to continue providing these funds is through the support and volunteering of our families.
Using the link provided below, please help us make this casino just as successful as previous years by volunteering for a position. If you are unsure what each position is, please reach out to elise.thorne@ecsd.net and a FAQ will be provided.
